Dr Melanie (Mel) Wong is the founder and a counsellor at Restorying Journey. She has extensive experience and is passionate about supporting the mental and emotional well-being of gifted and twice-exceptional individuals. Her professional and personal experiences have motivated her to be a counsellor, especially for those who are gifted and/or have a sensitive personality. Mel had worked for NGOs, medical clinics, government sectors and private psychology sectors. She is a member of the New Zealand Association for Counsellors.

Mel uses a pluralistic approach in counselling. She believes that "one approach doesn’t fit all," and therefore, a flexible and integrative therapeutic approach that combines multiple methods can address and respond to the diverse needs of clients.

Mel holds a PhD from the University of Canterbury. She is currently working as a Principal Lecturer for social work. She is also interested in research, and her research areas include giftedness, twice-exceptionality, and mental and emotional well-being. Mel publishes and presents her research at conferences. She also conducts professional development workshops for teachers, social work practitioners and counsellors.

Mel’s commitment to serving the community is evident in the work she does outside her roles as a counsellor and in a teaching career. She is currently a member of an advisory group for curriculum fresh with the Ministry of Education and involved in ministerial duties with the Ministry of Justice.
