Dr Judith Selvaraj
Registered Educational Psychologist PhD (Ed) in Inclusive Education, MA (Hons, Psych), MEd (Hons), BA (Psych/Ed), Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education and various Commercial Teachers’ Diplomas.

Judy is skilled in inclusive education and assessments. She is enthusiastic about reducing the barriers for those who have specific learning challenges, so they have equitable learning opportunities. Throughout her teaching career she was a Commerce Teacher in many South Auckland secondary schools and has tutored at The Auckland University of Technology and The University of Auckland.
In private practice and university research, Judy has presented at many Conferences in New Zealand, Australia (Queensland University of Technology), USA (North Carolina and Nevada) and United Kingdom (British Education Research Association). In March 2025, Judy attended the various Asian Conferences on Educational and International Development, on Psychology and the Behavioural Sciences and on Aging and Gerontology, in Tokyo Japan.
Judy has taken a particular position that supports students who have special educational needs, which might include ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, ASD, Dyspraxia and Dysgraphia and a genuine interest in how students might struggle to learn due to focussing in class, having difficulties completing homework and guiding parents about children’s developmental stages.
Judy’s other previous positions included those as a Special Needs Adviser and Psychologist, in the Ministry of Education, being part of the Behaviour Team, and several years as a Secondary School Teacher and Head of Department.
Judy’s PhD topic about Inclusive Education (Policies and Practices in NZ Secondary Schools) outlined the tensions between the rhetoric of inclusion and delivery of services and how educators collaborate to embrace the practicalities of inclusive education.
Judy holds interest in all areas of special education, that is, students who have learning challenges, such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyspraxia, those who have further challenges that include ADD/ADHD, ASD, and assessing students who have Gifted characteristics. She completes assessments for students at both secondary school and tertiary levels who may need Special Assessments Conditions, and for students who are studying in overseas universities. These include a cognitive and educational assessment, and she includes outcomes of a student from a school or university and medical information (if needed) to support the applications.
Professional supervision is one that is a requirement of professional supervision, and she is trained in assembling Individual Educational Plans for Schools who may need support for Inclusive Practices. She completes cognitive and educational assessment for school, university and post university clients and she has extensive involvement in NZ, Australia, UK, and USA often involving her professional development across many spheres.
